Chipotle Heaven

Have a Chipotle addiction? If you have a craving and need your “fix” come to Ohio which has been awarded the title “Chipotle Heaven.” As of December 31, 2012, there were 143 Chipotle Mexican Grill locations in the state. This translates into more Chipotle marinated chicken, pico de gallo, and guacamole served in Ohio than any other state except California. When our statisticians took a break from munching, they came to some pretty fascinating conclusions. First, there are only 43 U.S. states with Chipotle locations; 7 states are completely devoid and deprived of the Mexican/fast-casual delicacy. If you are living in Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Hawaii, Mississippi, Montana, or West Virginia please contact your local Congressman or Steve Ells, founder of Chipotle, about getting a restaurant near your hometown.

Next, Ohio has the 2nd highest person-to-Chipotle restaurant proportion in the country with a staggering .00001239 ratio. That equates to 1 restaurant for every 80,729 residents! To celebrate, grab 80,000 of your buddies and celebrate with YOUR VERY OWN Chipotle restaurant.

The last piece of data analyzed was the locations per land area. Water territory was excluded as there are no water-based Chipotle locations – yet. Ohio ranks 5th in restaurants per square mile. Although most of the locations are clustered in dense, urban areas, if each location was distributed in a straight line equidistant from another there would be  1 Chipotle restaurant every 286 miles. More impressively, there would be 1 restaurant every mile from Cleveland to Columbus. That would be a lot of food stops, and a lot of “gas”.

Data specifications: The number of locations were obtained from the Chipotle Mexican Grill 10-K Annual Report as of December 31, 2012. Land area and population were obtained based on 2012 information. To determine the weighted rating and “Burrito-meter” the rating for # of locations, locations per person, and locations per land area were weighted equally at 33%, 33%, 33%, respectively. A lower Burrito-meter ranking correlates to a higher overall ranking (for determining the Chipotle Heaven award). All data was compiled by OhioWins.com
