Golf legend Jack Nicklaus is also a Columbus hometown hero. He was born and raised in Columbus, attended the Ohio State University, resides in the area, and also hosts his own PGA golf tournament in Dublin, a suburb just north of the city. The Memorial Tournament has been held annually at the Muirfield Village Golf Club the first weekend in June since 1976. It is one of the most prestigious events on the PGA tour and attracts the world’s top golfers each year. The Memorial is one of five tournaments on the PGA tour that is granted “invitational” status. Therefore, the Memorial Tournament has a reduced field of only 120 golfers rather than the full field of 156. Tiger Woods has won the tournament five times which is more than any other golfer. Nicklaus has won his own tournament twice. Jack’s mission for the tournament is to honor the distinguished members of the golf community, showcase the world’s best golfers at a challenging course, and to benefit charitable organizations in central Ohio.
