When I first learned that the National Tractor Pulling Championships takes place in Bowling Green, Ohio, I initially resisted in writing about the event in fear of perpetuating Ohio stereotypes. However, when I learned more about the championship and history of the sport, I quickly changed my mind. In tractor pulling, modified vehicles attempt to pull a metal sled the greatest distance along a straight dirt track. The National Tractor Pulling Championships is the largest outdoor truck and tractor competition in the United States. The 2016 event will be the 50th anniversary of the championship. Over 60,000 fans from around the United States and Canada travel to Bowling Green for the three-day exhilarating event. Throughout the championship, competitors will face off for a share of $150,000 in prize money. This year’s event will take place in August 2016 at the Wood County Fairgrounds, which is also believed to be the birthplace of the tractor pull.
