Do you ever get a thrill out of walking past people on the sidewalk or seeing how fast you can get from one class to the next? If that describes you perfectly, there’s an event hosted annually in New Albany that might interest you. With approximately 3,000 participants, the New Albany Walking Classic is considered the largest walk-only race in the United States. The race’s flagship event is a 10k (6.2 miles) and past winner’s have recorded times as impressive as 47 minutes, 40 seconds (7:40 pace), a time faster than most people can run. Participant’s looking for longer distances can also walk a half marathon (13.1 miles). The race has gained popularity outside New Albany and draws participants from 40 states and 2 foreign countries. The New Albany Walking Classic was also voted the #1 Walk in America by Walk! Magazine.
