A summer tradition like none other, the Ohio State Fair attracts individuals from all around the state. Both Forbes and the Travel Channel have listed the Ohio State Fair as one of the best state fairs in the country. The fair is well recognized for its array of agricultural competitions, fried foods, and musical entertainment. Approximately 800,000 attend the fair each year. The fair also hosts an “Ohio Idol” competition for Ohioans to compete in a musical competition for $10,000. Other events include pig races, various rides, livestock showing competitions, a spelling bee, home-brew competitions, and live concerts featuring talents such as Carly Rae Jepsen, Gavin Degraw, and Selena Gomez. A notable fair tradition is that the governor will sleep in the barn with the pigs the night before the grand opening.
