Ohio’s “Gold Rush”

When word of the gold rush broke out, pioneers seemed to have missed the Ohio exit and ended up traveling all the way to California. Unfortunately for them, it turns out there is plenty of gold right here in Ohio. Jackson is home to Ohio Precious Metals, LLC (OPM Metals), which is one of only five gold refineries in the United States. OPM Metals is considered the largest refiner of “good delivery” gold and silver in North America. It is also one of the few refineries in the world that is not in vicinity to a gold mining site. The company is known for its refining process of turning recycled goldĀ into high quality gold for banks and jewelers primarily in New York, London, and Shanghai. The 168,000 square foot facility produces several billion dollars of gold and silver a year.
