The debate over which city has the best pizza, Chicago or New York, may never be resolved. So lets just compromise and meet in the middle, figuratively and geographically, in Steubenville, Ohio. Steubenville is home to Ohio Valley Style Pizza (aka Steubenville Style) which offers a unique twist on the traditional pizza. This genre of pizza separates itself from the pack in that the cheese and toppings are sprinkled on the dough and sauce after being cooked. While this may sound counter-intuitive, the heat from the sauce and dough slowly cook the cheese and toppings which helps to retain the flavor that is lost in the extreme heat of the oven. The baking method isn’t the only aspect which makes the Steubenville Style unconventional. The pizza is most commonly served in a rectangular shape with square slices. It is recommended to eat the pizza when it is first served, when the cheese is freshest.
